Brake sizes
Does anyone know the front disc measurements of the standard 2002, including the centre hub? I'm going to ask an engineer what's involved in getting E30 325i discs to fit standard hubs/bearings, then get a bracket/spacer to fit 325 calipers. If this works, it should be a cheaper alternative to Volvo/ E21 320i bits. Thanks, Kev
Just been and measured for you
2002 hub is 148-150mm diameter at the wheel mounting face with a lip diameter of approx 58mm
From the mounting face where it bolts on the back of the hub to the outer face of the disc is 50mm
diameter of the mounting face of the disc is 112mm with a 63mm hole
overall disc diameter is 240mm ,disc is approx 10mm thick
Are you going to put the disc behind the hub as on the 2002 or outside of the hub as on E30s ?
Cheers Dave. I'm thinking that they could be mouted as standard 02 (behind hub). Bad news that the big hub mount size that centralises the disc is 63mm, as the 325 one is 66mm. If it were smaller than 63, it could easily be milled out but being bigger could be a problem with keeping it all balanced - certainly not impossable but I can see the pounds mounting up..............
Thanks anyway, Kev
Hi,
If you want to mount the E30 disc on an 02 hub, it has to go on the back face of the hub and 4 bolt holes need to be machined as does the spigot hole so that the disc can be bolted to the hub by way of cap screws as per original.
For the calipers, I still think that refurbishing the original calipers is the way forward (and getting a 10mm spacer made up to fit between the 2 halves to run 22mm wide discs) as you have 4 pot calipers instead of a sliding single pot which is really basic bean counter parts.
Cheers,
John.
