Hi Sean,
You need a pre 1982 M30 E3 E9 E12 E24 E23 manual gearbox bellhousing as these cars have the separate bellhousing
the same as what you are running. I have seen a 12mm adaptor plate made up to turn the engine around abit, but you will need to modifly/lengthen the spigot bearing & clutch release brg so that they sit further out. Or cut, turn and weld the mounting face by the required amount. It will need gussets welded on as well to support the new position.
E21 front crossmembers are different for 4 and 6 cyl cars as well.

Thanks for the information, this operation is proving a little more taxing than first anticipated but should be well worth it in the end.
The M12 engine sits vertical in the engine bay requiring different mounting positions. I want to retain my original cross member and engine in case we have problems with the M12 down the line.
By fitting the engine vertical you now have a gearstick hitting you in the ribs so this must be overcome also.
I use a turbo close ratio box in my car with a removable bell housing
I need to find another bell housing now as well , and I’m not sure if any of these were used on E 21’s also
Lastly the whole exhaust has to be altered to fit down the left hand side of the car and tucked into the tunnel to survive the Irish jumps
We are pushing hard now to have it out for Donegal rally 13 / 15 June as this was the event Warmbolds car was first seen in Ireland…..Cant wait

You could make one fit, but you might have sump issues as the E21 sump will not clear an 02 crossmember. I know that the mounting bolts are in different positions, the 02 uses 6 bolts and the E21 only 4.
There are also the issues of locating the suspension arms, anti roll bar and brake reaction bars, but nothing that could be overcome I guess.
I am building up an E21 rally car at the moment, so will check out the critical bits and pieces and drop you an email.

General question
Has anyone ever tried to fit an E21 cross member into an 02??
The steering rack bits would not be a problem
Do the chassis legs fit would be more important to know
