Hi Paul,
There is a nylon filter on the fuel pickup in the tank. Check to see if it's blocked with sediment. There is also another cone filter in the fuel inlet union bolt on the pump (which also goes to the coldstart valve).
If all of these don't help, you will have to get another pump. I think E30 320i pumps will fit. (blue plastic covering) but I think it's better to locate a proper tii fuel pump as the fuel pressures may vary.
Cheers,
John.

Thanks John
Do You mean the filter next to the radiator , the in-line silver metal one ,in which case I have changed this. Cheers Paul

Try replacing the fuel filter as the pumps can make a lot of noise when they are under load due to blocked filters etc.
Cheers,
John.

Hello As you will gather I am no mechanic but I appear to have what I think is a noisy fuel pump from the rear of my 75 Tii. You can hear it above the sound of the idling car when you stand alongside the car on the drivers side. Normal , needs lubrication , needs sound deadening , or just almost knackered ? advice pleasePaul
