During the seventies Alpina sold dual-carb kits and several other accessories for your BMW. Additionally they built complete engines based on BMW`s M10 4-cylinder. Type A0 was not very interesting: Constructed for low gas consumption in times of the first oil shock. Type A1 fitted with a dual-carb set (first Solex and later on Weber 40mm) and special air filter – delivering 115Bhp. Type A2 included an additional special camshaft and light modifications on cylinder head – 150Bhp. Type A3 included some more cylinder head modification and a 45mm carb set – 160Bhp. Finally there was the top model A4 based on the BMW 2002tii from 1973 on. Engine specifications were just like type A3 but now including a more precise injection system especially developed by Alpina (the item shown here) – 165Bhp (street version / more than 200hp possible with more modifications (Mahle pistons etc.). This system resolves the problems you have with increasing the power of a stock tii engine concerning the inlet manifold. Long inlet ways and only one central throttle body do not allow you to use cams with more than 284 degrees. Therefore, highest reachable power output is around 145 to 150hp. But there is much more potential in this engine and Alpina recognized that. They developed a special intake manifold and Weber-like throttle bodies with a separate throttle for every cylinder. Gas flow of Webers and the precision of an injection were combined!!! Cars of this type won several tests against 2002 turbo in German car magazines in the 70?s. In September 1973 famous Auto,Motor und Sport stopped a high-speed of 212km/h for an Alpina 2002tii A4 street version. 1. Alpina intake manifold 2. two throttle bodies 3. four original Alpina red air horns 4. special linkage parts needed for installation 5. screws needed for assembly of the system itself 6. copy of original Alpina mounting instruction (German language / normally only for dealers) All parts are used but do work well. What else do you need for installation? New gaskets (stock BMW) and maybe new screws (would give it a better look). Complete fuel delivery of a stock tii including Kugelfischer pump. Tii engine with injection front cover needed as well, of course. Sport camshaft and engine parts according to your wishes. For cams not higher than 304 degrees stock Kugelfischer injection pump will be enough (re-adjustment needed). For engine cams more sharp the Kugelfischer camshaft needs to be changed. Some parts of a stock tii gas linkage. Stock tii injector nozzles (to be screwed in the Alpina throttle bodies). Best would be if you own a complete tii. Others possible but more work to do. And last but not least some K+N air filters (can be driven without filters, too if legal in your state). To be honest the system was originally delivered with a special air filter house. It works as well with K+N?s. This system can be installed on every Kugelfischer injected BMW M10 2 litre engine
